وصف
In Japan, money is put in this envelope and given as a wedding gift.
Goshugi is a gift of money handed to someone on a celebratory occasion in a special envelope, a noshi-bukuro.
The amount given depends on the giver's relationship to the celebrant.
The paper money put in the envelope should be a new one and in the form of odd number cannot be divided, so that the people you give it to will never be divided.
Conversely, money given as a condolence is called bushugi, for which you should not use a noshi-bukuro.
In ancient times, people sent seafood, especially dried and stretched abalone, symbolizing hoped-for growth and prosperity.
The dried and stretched abalone is now represented on the envelope by a piece of origami resembling a wrapped abalone. This is called noshi.
