Petrified wood is wood literally turned into stone, or fossilized. Over time, silicon dioxide replaces the wood, leaving only quartz. This is a great stone to use when combining both earth and wood energies. Petrified wood works with the Root and Third-Eye Chakras, as well as the Solar Plexus and Sacral Chakra. Use these to connect with Earth energies. Petrified wood is sometimes mistaken as wood or stone when it is actually a fossil. Some well kept pieces often show details of wood and plant material. This petrifaction occurs over a long period of time and is due to the lack of oxygen needed for normal decomposition. Petrified Wood is composed of many colors which is a result of the petrifaction process where different minerals replace the organic material through mud and water. The minerals are dependent on what is close by at the time but it is commonly carbon, chromium, cobalt, copper iron oxides, manganese, and silicons. These elements can result in a large assortment of colors such as black, green, blue, red, brown, yellow, and grey and white. The most common you are going to see are the reds/oranges/whites. Petrified wood is found anywhere through out the globe as its main components are abundant in many places. It just takes the right set of conditions to make the mineral.
