Lyme disease is the most common vector-borne disease in the United States. It is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks. If left untreated, Lyme Disease commonly manifests in three clinically recognized stages, leading to a variety of health issues. Therefore, early detection and treatment is important. But since Lyme disease can cause a variety of seemingly unrelated symptoms throughout the body, it often goes undiagnosed for a long time, and as many as 40% of Lyme disease cases are not diagnosed until a later stage of the disease. Our Lyme Disease Tests measures your body's reactivity to borrelia bacteria, using a two-step serological process.
What symptoms can be caused by Lyme Disease?
Tiredness, lack of concentration, poor memory
Erythema migrans rash (Bull's-Eye Rash)
Fever, headaches
Shooting pain or numbness in hands or feet
Arthritis, joint pain
Facial palsy
Important notes: The antibodies take several weeks to build up in the bloodstream, so taking the test before 4-6 weeks have passed may result in a false negative result.
Cross Reactivity: There is the potential for this test to produce a false positive result in people with Epstein - Barr virus or Toxoplasma.
If you were previously diagnosed with Lyme disease, a positive Lyme test cannot distinguish between a current and a previous infection.
A positive test result is not a clinical diagnosis of Lyme disease. Diagnosing Lyme disease can only be done by a medical professional. We strongly recommend consulting with your healthcare provider after receiving the results.
