Soft-catch design:
The ball is designed to absorb the door and give a soft stop by pushing in on the shaft. When hit by the door, the ball gently compresses a bit and holds the door open solidly. Don't worry that it would hit with a clunk, the doorstop can hold the door silently and push the door a little bit back gently and automatically.

Mounting guide:
Small round part to the door, the longer part goes on, chair rail or positioned over a wall stud. Don't mount small round part on any hollow core door, or at least put it on a solid spot.
If you are figuring out how to remove the base of the magnetic spring base, just insert a couple thin screwdrivers into the holes on the back of the base plate and twist, then fix the base on the wall with installation screws.
