3. The difference between Type A and Type B is the curve. Due to the way the curve works, type A is usually used for "volume" and type B is usually used for "tone", although some people prefer type B for both "tone" and "volume". Most use 500K ohm potentiometers for Les Paul-type guitars, and most Strat-type guitars use 250K ohm potentiometers, although this is strictly personal preference.
