The Sd.Kfz tank fighter. 138 Marder III was developed for the German army based on the chassis of the now obsolete, but available, light tank Panzer 38(t) of Czechoslovak production. The modification resulted in the adoption of the effective 75 mm anti-tank gun in an open structure protected by an inclined plate shield. PaK 40. The Marder III Ausf. H had the engine installed in the rear of the vehicle and the weapon system in a central position to ensure greater protection to the servants. With this configuration the Wehrmacht had an easy-to-produce tank fighter with a high firepower capable of countering the main tanks of the time. It went into production in 1942 for the needs of the Eastern Operational Theatre and was used until the end of the war on all fronts.
