PRE-TREAT STEPS -- The natural driftwood contains only a small amount of tannin. Before use, it should be soaked in water and boiled 2-3 times. Then soak it for appro 3 weeks (wood release tannins may last several weeks or longer). During this time, tannins will be released, causing the water to turn yellow. It is necessary to frequently change the water until it becomes clear before placing it into the tank. For reptiles, it can be used directly without soaking.
