Historically Accurate Suffragette and Suffragist Ribbon Rosette with Streamers and Votes for Women Hand Sign. Suffragist Rosette, made of pleated satin ribbon, is based on research into the American suffrage movement of the early 1900s. A rosette, often called a cockade, was frequently worn by women working for the right of women to vote. This rosette uses the American suffrage colors of purple, white, and gold. In the center is a small white button with the words Votes for Women, in a font used by suffragists. The text, including font and even the period after the word “Women” reflects an actual button from that period. The rosette is 3 inches with a purple ribbon on the outside, white in the middle and gold next to the center button. The 3 ribbon streamers are 5 inches long and in matching colors. The purple was chosen for loyalty, white for purity and virtue, and gold for the sunflowers of Kansas where Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton campaigned for the vote for women, hoping to get the state legislature to pass a suffrage bill. (The British suffrage colors are purple, white, and green.) Wear this rosette button to celebrate the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage as well as to show your support of the strength, courage, and perseverance of all the women who fought for and won this right. And carry the Votes for Women hand sign for a fun accessory. As with the text in the cockade, we researched and recreated an authentic sign used in marches.
