Suffrage Essential 3-Item Combo is based on research into the American suffragette movement of the early 1900s. It includes the 3 items most frequently worn/used by women working for the right of women to vote. (1) TRI-COLOR SATIN SASH with 18 stars and the words VOTES FOR WOMEN printed in black. Examination of photographs and government archive documents detail that authentic sashes, ribbons, and flags, frequently showed 18 stars representing the 18 states had ratified the Amendment (half the required number of 36 states). When accompanied by the word VOTES FOR WOMEN, these items promoted the passage of the 19th Amendment. Sashes, ribbons and badges were worn by millions of women who marched, organized, and protested to secure the right to vote.(2) SATIN RIBBON ROSETTE COCKADE uses the American suffrage colors of purple, white, and gold. With a small white circle in the middle showing the words Votes for Women, the rest of the 3-inch rosette uses pleated ribbon in the same three colors. We attach 3 ribbon streamers in matching colors. The purple is for loyalty, white is for purity and virtue, and gold is for the sunflowers of Kansas where Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton campaigned for the right to vote for women, hoping to get the state legislature to pass a suffrage bill. (The British suffrage colors are purple, white, and green.) Wear this sash and ribbon rosette button to celebrate the women's right to vote and the 19th Amendment -- as well as to show your support of the strength, courage, and perseverance of all the women who fought for and won this right. (3) SUFFRAGE HAND SIGN is based on hundreds of photos from the early 1900s. Carry the VOTES FOR WOMEN sign or use it for decoration at a party. The sign uses an authentic 1910 font.
