III. Durable Construction
A valve cover bolts over the internal combustion engine's cylinder head. The gap between the rest of the engine block and the valve cover is sealed using a valve cover gasket, while a valve cover breather can be located at the top. A valve cover gasket seals the valve cover to the top portion of the engine cylinder head. The gasket prevents motor oil from leaking out as it travels around the camshafts, rockers, and valves. A gasket breaks after a few thousand miles, so it is natural for you to have it replaced, it is very likely that you will get an engine seizure if you do not have it replaced.
If the valve cover becomes loose or if the gasket material fails, the burning oil smell will occur. When a valve cover gasket is pinched, worn out, or cracked, compressed oil from underneath the valve cover will find a way to escape. The valve cover is dirty and leaking oil; the Engine is low on oil; the Engine is running rough and causing misfires. The above are all symptoms that occur when the valve cover or gasket fails.
