The Chicago-Latrobe 790 series regular length spotting bit is made from solid carbide with an uncoated (bright) finish and has a 90-degree conventional point for drilling a pilot hole and creating chamfers into hard materials. Solid carbide is harder than high-speed or cobalt steel, provides longer tool life at higher speeds, and produces close-tolerance holes in hard materials. The uncoated finish has no additional surface treatment or coating. A spotting drill bit is used to drill a pilot hole, which reduces walking and improves hole accuracy for the secondary drill bit.
