Metal-on-metal contact could cause some scratching, putting something between the rim and the lever while prying can easily reduce the risk.

Using methods:
Usually use two Lever to get the tire off.
The first Lever to pry the tire off and attached to a spoke to hold it in place.
The second Lever to run around the bead and pull the rest of the tire off.
