The "pony car," the first of the muscle cars, was named after the successful World War II fighter airplane, P-51 Mustang, first rolling off the manufacturing floor in 1964. Considered part of the first generation of Mustangs, before Ford decided to bulk up the body, keeping its more sportscar-like physique. Alan Mann Racing has been racing Ford vehicles since he established his team in 1963 and officially became a Ford Factory Team by the following year. Adorned in the iconic Alan Mann Racing colors of red and gold, Alan Mann Racing has been behind the wheel of these Ford Mustangs since 1965 and can even be spotted racing around the track in historic racing events sporting the same colors, also managed by Alan Mann Racing as they revived the team in 2004 and now operated by his sons allowing his legacy to live on.
