Esschert Design TH31 “Thunder Glass” / Weather Glass Barometer with Cast Iron Filigree Holder and Pan. This beautiful and highly functional “Thunder Glass” / Weather Glass barometer is ready to be hung on your wall and predict the weather. Elegant hand-blown glass pitcher rests in a beautifully crafted filigree cast iron base with a durable antique brown finish. Shows weather changes by measuring atmospheric pressure and raising and lowering the liquid in the spout. Rising liquid indicates approaching cloud cover and possible precipitation; falling liquid indicates improving or clear weather. Fill glass halfway with water to allow the other half to be exposed to the atmosphere (distilled water will prevent water spot). Customize by adding your favorite food coloring to the liquid/water. Be sure to fill on a calm, sunny day since pressure is measured based on the internal pressure of the barometer at the time it was sealed. Hang in partial sun where temperature is constant; changes in water temperature will impact readings and heat can evaporate your liquid. **Please note: water will rise very quickly or even spill out into pan when heavy or potentially dangerous precipitation is expected. Filling Instructions: 1. Fill one pot or bucket with warm water and a second with cold water. 2. Submerge entire barometer in warm water. Keep barometer under water until you no longer see air bubbles being released. 3. Place one finger over spout before removing barometer from water. 4. Submerge barometer in cold water while still covering spout with your finger. Remove your finger to allow cold water to fill barometer until bubbles stop. 5. Repeat steps 1-4 until water settles 1” above spout. Don't forget to seal spout with your finger each time you move barometer to new bucket. 6. Hang barometer allowing water to reach room temperature. 7. Empty spout until half full. 8. Add desired food coloring through spout. Dimensions: 5.5” long x 4.75” wide x 11” high. Weighs 2.02 pounds.
