Common symptoms that indicate a solenoid valve is malfunctioning: 1.Failure to open; 2.Failure to close; 3.Internal or external leakage; 4. Creating noise when energized.
Solenoid valves are used in both pneumatic and hydraulic fluid power systems, and most often in either poppet or spool configurations. A spool solenoid valve is part of a hydraulic system that directs the flow of hydraulic fluid. The valve is made up of spools that rotate or slide to block and open channels in a hydraulic system.

About the Solenoid valve
Solenoid valves are used in both pneumatic and hydraulic fluid power systems, and most often in either poppet or spool configurations. A spool solenoid valve is part of a hydraulic system that directs the flow of hydraulic fluid. The valve is made up of spools that rotate or slide to block and open channels in a hydraulic system.
Spool valves can be used in both hydraulics (where the oil is the energy source) or Pneumatics (where the air is the energy source) and their job is to control the flow direction of the energy source by combining or switching the paths through which the oil or air can travel.
