Description:
The VL6180 is a time-of-flight measurement sensor. The sensor consists of a very small laser source and a matching sensor. The VL6180X can detect "time of flight," or the time it takes for the laser to recover the sensor to calculate the distance.
Unlike most range sensors, which rely on the intensity of reflected light or the Angle of reflection to determine distance, the VL6180 uses an accurate clock to measure the time it takes for light to bounce off a surface, because it uses a very narrow light source, unlike sonar in ultrasonic waves, and unlike traditional infrared range sensors, which have no linearity problems or "double imaging." You can't tell how close an object is. So the VL6180X is more accurate.
The VL6180 module is recommended to handle distances from 5mm to 100mm. Due to the small size of the sensor module, it is easy to use in any robot or interactive project. You can use it with any 3-5V power supply or logic microcontroller.

1. The SCL-12C clock pin is connected to the SCL of the main control;

Control pin:
1.GPI0 - The pin used by the sensor to indicate data readiness, note that the pin output is 0-2.8V high and low level, the pin may not be applied to Arduino and other boards (these boards are 3.3 or 5V high level), generally do not use, to apply the need to add level conversion.
2.SHDN - Sensor closing pin. By default, it is pulled high. There is a level conversion diode, so you can use 3-5V logic on this pin. When the pin is pulled down, the sensor enters the off mode.
