Figure 8 Fasteners are an ideal way to attach wooden tables to desks and tables. Using a 11/16 inch (or 5/8 inch) shovel or Forstner bit, simply drill a shallow hole in the track or baffle of the project so that the top of the fastener is flush with the top of the track.
Secure the fasteners to the skirt board with a No. 6 screw, then secure the wooden top with another No. 6 screw. Simple chisel work may be required near shallow boreholes to ensure proper bedding and free lateral movement of fasteners.
Fasteners are sunk on opposite sides to keep the screw heads flush. It is important to hold the screws in place, but not too tight to accommodate seasonal wood movement.
Depending on your project, the wood thickness will vary, so you must choose a screw length that suits your individual needs.
As with any way of securing a table or table top to a rail or baffle, be sure to lift the project through the rail and not the table top.
