'shuin' means a common stamp.

'goshuin' is a special stamp that is given at a shrine or a temple.

It is usually called 'goshuin' instead of 'shuin' without a prefix. 'chou' is an album or book in Japanese.

When visiting sacred places in such as temples in Japan, some believers of other sects place goshuin on Goshuin-chou (a notebook for sealing red seals of various sacred places) for record.

After you get your 'goshuin cho' you can bring it other temples and shrines to get more stamps.
