Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor is a sensor that is screwed into the engine's block or cylinder head.
Common symptoms of a bad ECT sensor are overheating, hard starting conditions, poor idle, black smoke coming from the engine, Check Engine Light ON and the electric fans do not work properly.
Be aware that coolant will gush out when removing the old plug so have the new sensor close and ready to attempt to reduce the amount of coolant loss.
