The Sony FX3, a compact cinema camera, is perfect for solo shooters and travel applications, and serves as an excellent B cam. It combines the best of the Cinema Line and Alpha series cameras, offering a lightweight, handheld form with a streamlined profile. The “cage-free” design of the FX3 allows for the attachment of various accessories directly to the camera body. As expected from this class, it features all the necessary imaging attributes.
The FX3 comes equipped with a 12.1MP Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor, which effectively provides 10.2MP in video mode. This sensor works in conjunction with a BIONZ XR processor to deliver UHD 4K video recording capabilities. It offers internal 10-bit 4:2:2 sampling and the option for 16-bit raw output. The sensor's BSI structure enhances both clarity and sensitivity, offering an ISO range that can be expanded from 80 to 409,600.
The S-Cinetone mode, which enhances color and tonal control, can be utilized to match sources from VENICE, FX9, or FX6. Additionally, it supports S-Log3/2 gamut and 10-bit HLG, making it suitable for straightforward HDR productions. The sensor and processor collaborate to significantly minimize rolling shutter. Furthermore, the sensor is designed with a Fast Hybrid AF system, ensuring smart and speedy focusing performance and tracking of subjects.
