The Woolly Bugger is a beaded streamer and has long been considered one of the most effective fly fishing patterns in the world for both freshwater and saltwater. This simple, classic design attracts a wide range of fish as it imitates many of their favorite food sources: minnows, hegamites, nymphs, baitfish, large insects, and leeches. It is an ideal fly for targeting trout, bass, and panfish.
Fly Design:
Wooly bugger fly fishing flies are tied on longer hooks and include a marabou tail and chenille body with a hackle (from the head to the tail of the fly). Flash or legs are often added for extra flair and action. Popular freshwater colors include olive, tan, and black. Brighter colors are a good choice for steelhead, salmon, and saltwater.
