Recommend using a smaller jar for these tiki torch bottles because a wine bottle holds an unnecessarily large amount of oil and it does have to be filled within a couple inches of the top for the wicks to conduct the oil fast enough to maintain a flame.If the bottle is too empty the wick can't keep up with the flame and it goes out,or you can filling the wine bottle half way with sand,then you wouldn't have to use as much oil.
