Tab anode is a good replacement for most Mercury Mariner outboards 35HP-300HP, 1995 and newer Force 90HP and 120HP outboards plus all MerCruiser drives
The corrosion products of zinc anodes are more readily “shed”, exposing the fresh zinc alloy anode to water and allowing the anode to remain electrochemically active and discharge current. This is not the case with aluminum anodes; if left in a static environment where their corrosion products are not easily dislodged, the metal consumed by the aluminum anode forms a barrier that passivates the anode, resulting in the aluminum anode being unable to continue to corrode. The longer it sits in a static environment, the higher the chance of anode passivation.
Both zinc and aluminum anodes will work if a boat is frequently in salt water; however, zinc anodes are the best choice if it is in salt water for a long time.
