Akhenaten, also spelled Echnaton, Akhenaton.
In terms of artistic creativity, the founding of a new religious center, and the intrigue surrounding the regal succession, King Akhenaten's reign stands out in the annals of ancient Egypt. The establishment of an early monotheism that emphasized the distinction of the sun deity Aten and Akhenaten's personal bond with this god is what makes Akhenaten most famous. There was only one deity for this king, and only Akhenaten knew who that one god was.
Another Karnak structure featured the Aten with his queen, Nefertiti, and the royal daughters rather than with Akhenaten. Royal women were given a prominent place in the Aten religion, especially Nefertiti, who formed part of a divine triad with Akhenaten and the Aten. The birth of the twins Shu and Tefnut from the androgynous creator god Atum is one of Egypt's most significant creation myths, in which the three were amalgamated with the divine figures. The Aten cult's legitimacy was aided by royal women. In situations where female divine power was required, they filled in for goddesses and grew to be somewhat supernatural beings.
