Special Features

  • HIGH QUALITY STAINLESS STEEL: These #12 Wood Screws (Drywall Screws) are high quality grade Marine Grade Type 316 Stainless Steel, giving the screws one of the highest forms of corrosion resistance and strength, making it last longer than other hardware on the market today.
  • Type 316 steel is an austenitic chromium-nickelstainless steel that contains between two and three percent molybdenum. The molybdenum content increases corrosion resistance, improves resistance to pitting in chloride ion solutions and increases strength at high temperatures. Type 316 Stainless is more resistant to corrosion than 18-8 stainless but not as strong. Ideal for Salt Water envirovments or chemical exposure environments.
  • Type 17 Point - This thread cutting screw is ideal for use with wood; it offers a coarse tapping screw thread as well as a special long sharp point that is fluted in order to capture chips. The patented thread design and Type 17 point make drilling faster, reduce splitting, and allow these screws to be driven into most hardwoods without pre-drilling
  • Features a Bugle Head, and a Square drive to be used with a #3 Square Drive
  • Size Number: #12 / Length of Screw is 5" inches with 3-1/4" inches of thread

Description

316 stainless steel is ideal where superior corrosion resistance is required. You'll be amazed at the difference an auger point makes on a Stainless Steel screw! Great for use with pressure treated wood, or premium materials like Redwood and Western Red Cedar because they are truly self-drilling. Wood screws are designed to attach two pieces of wood together. They generally feature a smooth, unthreaded shank below the head which ensures a tight attachment, and the threaded portion of the shank is tapered to increase the holding power. Threads specially designed for use in wood effectively resist pulling out. Square drive decking screws are screws that you can use to fasten wood and composite decks to main beams. These stainless-steel square head decking screws resist corrosion, so they are a perfect fastener for outdoor decks, since they can withstand a variety of exterior stresses and weather conditions. Length is measured from the top of the head. Square-shaped drive systems are driven with a wrench. Square drive style helps eliminate stripping effect. Lay flat with the surface they are installed in. The square drive helps eliminate stripping, which can be a problem when applying pressure to the screw with other types of drives. The type-17 point allows you to start fast and get the screw into the wood cleanly and easily, with coarse threads about 2/3 of the way up the shank to draw the decking into a tight seal with the substrate. Newport Fasteners' square drive decking screws are versatile enough that you can use them for all types of wood decking, including preservative-treated woods. You will usually need about 350 to fasten 100 square feet of decking, assuming 6-inch, nominal-width boards installed on 16-inch joists.
