Gefjon is a Norse goddess associated with fertility, agriculture, and ploughing. She is often depicted as a beautiful woman accompanied by ploughing oxen and is said to have created the Danish island of Zealand by ploughing the land away from the Swedish mainland. Gefjon represents the prosperity and abundance of the earth and is sometimes connected with virginity and unmarried women. She is mainly celebrated in pre-Christian Scandinavian history, and her cult was prevalent in Denmark and Sweden.
