Description
What is Sashiko? Sashiko is a traditional Japanese handcraft that dates back to ancient times. It began as a method of reinforcing and insulating clothing, and evolved into a decorative technique imbued with people's wishes and prayers for a good harvest, protection from evil, and business prosperity by stitching together layers of fabric by hand. Research indicates that Sashiko originated in the early 16th century, with the style from the Tohoku region being particularly well-known.
