The most common reason we hear is that the P$5 has been dropped or knocked while plugged in. This causes the USB cable to yank out and physically damage the port. It can also happen while plugging in the cable. The ports are quite delicate so if the USB cable isn't plugged in carefully to the P$5 it can cause damage.
If the USB port is really badly yanked this can cause damage to the motherboard and in some circumstances could be beyond repair (although that is very rarely the case).
The replacement USB port pins match the P$5 motherboard's solder pads accurately, so that no modification or time consuming adjustments are needed to align and install.
Requires console disassembly and technical skills such as soldering to install, please consult an expert if unsure.
