The VTEC system increases the amount of intake valve lift for increased power. It accomplishes this by turning a control solenoid 'ON' to allow oil pressure into the VTEC control passages to apply pins that will lock the intake rockers.
Inspection and Replacement of VTEC Solenoid Valve:
The spool valve solenoid assembly can be easily installed in the engine compartment and can be removed by removing 3 bolts. It is recommended to replace the spool valve assembly with the oil pressure switch, not just the oil pressure switch.
After removing the VTEC solenoid valve assembly, check the solenoid valve filter. If the filter is blocked, replace the filter cleaner and the sealing gasket of the engine lubricating solenoid valve. Once removed, the new parts must be replaced. Remove the V Ⅵ EC solenoid valve, check whether the valve moves freely with fingers, and replace the solenoid valve if there is jamming.
