You will get 1pc (one) Lapis Lazuli Sphere similar to the ones in the listing, the size and the color of the sphere may slightly vary as well due to the fact that all minerals are different. The name is international, from the Latin, lapis, which means stone, and from the Arabic, azul, which means blue. It literally means "blue rock" and is actually a rock rather than a mineral. It is composed of a highly variable mixture of the minerals lazurite, pyrite and calcite. The best Lapis Lazuli is uniformly deep blue in color, being opaque to semi-translucent and consist almost totally of lazurite.
Chemical formula: (Na,Ca)8(AlSiO4)6(S,Cl,SO4,OH)2; Mohs Hardness: Varies between the 3 of calcite and the 5 to 5.5 of lazurite.
In addition to lazurite, specimens of lapis lazuli usually contain calcite and pyrite. Sodalite, hauyne, wollastonite, afghanite, mica, dolomite, diopside, and a diversity of other minerals might also be present. To be called "lapis lazuli," a rock must have a distinctly blue color and contain at least 25% lazurite.
