On May 30, 1993, Dale Earnhardt was riding a wave of momentum fueled by on-track success. He had a string of top-10 finishes, in his wake. And he had just won the All-Star Race the weekend before. So, Earnhardt had nothing but victory in his sights when he started the 1993 600-mile race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. But winning the longest race of the season can halt momentum like a stop stick, and victory for Earnhardt would not come easily. He found himself a lap down twice. But he battled back each time. And when there were 39 laps to go, the NASCAR legend took the race lead. The rest is racing history. The win was Earnhardt's first Charlotte 600 victory. And it was the first time the longest race of the year ended under the lights.
