The Category 8 cable standard has been created to allow Up To 40 Gigabit Ethernet over 100m long distance, unlike Cat7 rated under 15 meters. The cable contains four twisted copper wire pairs separately shielded, unlike earlier standards without separate shielding. Category 8 cable is rated for transmission frequencies of up to 2000 MHz.
Class I channel and Category 8 cable is backward compatible with Class F / Class D / Category cat5e and Class E / Category cat6 / Category cat7. Class I features even stricter specifications for cross-talk and system noise than Class F. To achieve this, shielding has been added for individual wire pairs and the cable as a whole. Besides the shield, the twisting of the pairs and the number of turns per unit length increases RF shielding and protects from crosstalk.
