On October 18, 1994 in Laramie, WY the USPS issued the first installment of the Classic Collection. Stories about America's West have long been among the most popular pieces of American folklore. This set pays tribute to 16 individuals and features four topic-oriented stamps as well. Each of the individuals honored played an important part in the amazing history of America. Featured in this set is the corrected version of the Bill Pickett stamp. The original Legends of the West stamp design portrayed Pickett's brother Ben.
