Hot Pressed Paper surface has a subtle and organic texture, it is not completely smooth. When you use lots of water with granulating pigments, it will give you very delicate and organic / abstract type of textures. You can also achieve delicate drybrush marks with it.
Hot pressed texture can be used also with other type mixed media like watercolor pencils, gouache, pen, pencil or ink painting. Subtle texture will not overpower your work and gives you the ability to make variety of artistic works and effects.
Thick 140 LB / 300 GSM 100% cotton paper is ideal for wet on wet technique. Paper will remain flat and will not warp even when you apply lots of water on it. When fully wet it takes pleasingly long time to dry so you have lots of time to finish your painting before it dries.
The canvas covers of this sketchbook are very strong and gives good grid. It is designed strong so it can protect the papers when painting in outdoors. If you use lots of water it is suggested that you tape the edges with tape so that the water will not pass to other pages and ruin earlier paintings. You can take the tackiness of from the tape by first putting it against some fabric so it will not stick too hard on the paper.
With this big size sketchbook you can practice painting comfortable in bigger size and use loose brushwork and wet on wet techniques.
